The Venice International Film Festival (Italian Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica della Biennale di Venezia) is the oldest international film festival in the world. Founded by Count Giuseppe Volpi in 1932 as the “Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica”, the festival has since taken place every year in late August or early September on the island of the Lido, Venice, Italy.

The rise of internet has allowed artists and musicians of all levels to self distribute, and consumers can find music for free on a large number of sites that offer file downloads or P2P file sharing. In the case of YouTube, it has become the platform for people to enjoy videos without owning them, with a certain level of constraints and control of illegal distribution of copyrighted materials. Throughout the years, YouTube has become a popular platform for emerging music makers to be recognized for their talents; yet, it seems to have failed the film makers in terms of helping them succeed or become recognized.

YouTube sensations are born daily, and some continues to thrive in the business with the support of fans, or talent scout. Uh-hum. Justin Bieber.


Nonetheless, I wonder who will be the next YouTube sensational film maker? Or is there already one that came out, and I was just not aware of it? Well, with this festival, someone’s got to come out on top!
